Sometimes it just depends on the game wardens discretion. I have seen it go both ways.

Here the the highway patrol can allow you to keep the animal you have hit. I did not know until yesterday that the game warden can do it. It is illegal to take deer that you find anywhere and anyway outside of season. I will try and get a camera pic. To post today. I have one on my phone, but that does not help.
