So after 4 mornings and evenings of hunting this buck with my bow, I finally got him sunday morning.......but it was a bullet that did it and not a broadhead. I was sitting in a make shift life gaurd type of seat against the tree line of an opening with minimal coverage and about 6ft off the ground. I was really wanting a bow kill since it would have been my first ever, so I hunted diligently with my bow. I saw this buck everyday but he would never cross the fence and he stayed at least 45 yards away (I don't feel comfortable at all at that range). The wind was perfect each day and I had 6 to 10 doe 15 yards away at any given time, so it was very exciting and hard not to make a movement during my turkey day hunts. So realizing that sunday morning would be my last hunt and I wanted to bring that buck back, I took my Savage 250-3000, which was handed down from my great uncle who bought it from another great uncle many many years ago, and I really wanted a kill with it as well, because of the family history of the gun. So Sunday morning was here and I crawled into the highly uncomfortable seat and waited. Right at dawn I see the 7pt walk the fence line but I didn't have time to get my gun up because he never stopped and it was still pretty dark. I figured that this was going to be a quick morning....he would hop the fence and I will pop him and be done with it.....nope, all the doe started coming out like they always do and for some reason they were all acting really weird and kept looking around and acting really spooky. I was starting to lose hope when 10 yards from me on the right walks the 7pt, ya where's my bow now?!?!?! he walked about 20 yards away and I was able to put the hairs on him and let loose. I shot him in the shoulder and he ran for about 50 yards in the brush and it took about 20 mins to find him because there was no blood until about 20 feet from where he laid. Needless to say I was very happy, and even for a non-braced free hand shot that old savage did the job. Anyway sorry for the long story about my bow frustration but my gun glory...
