This past weekend I had the opportunity to harvest my first pronghorn. Saturday I sat in a blind all day only to have a small buck and a doe come in. After having those results a blind change was mandatory. Sunday morning started out promising in a different blind having a doe and several small bucks come in early. Then at about 10:30 several antelope started making their way to the watering hole with 3 of them being decent bucks. Once they came into water I started sizing them up, which one is bigger? this one or that one? I made the decision to pass on all of them, but as soon as they started walking off I had bowhunters remorse on one of them. Dang I should have shot that one! From 11:00 to 2:00 was slow then about 2:30 the activity picked up again with numerous small bucks and does coming in. About 5:00 I spotted the buck that had came in early that I wish I would have shot start making his way back to the water. I positioned myself and got ready, he slowly made his way into the watering hole. He came in directly in front of me and started drinking offering me one shot, right at the base of the neck/shoulder blades. I drew back slowly and placed the pin right were I wanted and released the arrow, THWACK! The arrow hit exactly where I was aiming, he instantly fell over in the water and started kicking and expired in probably 30 seconds. The shot worked out good because the blind was about 10 feet higher than the watering hole putting the arrow right in the vitals. Thanks for reading!
