Which Scope And Why

I ran across a steal on a Ruger M77MKII 7mm08. I should be ashamed of what I paid for it... Anyways it has a scope that will be in the classifieds soon. Let me explain what I have and we can roll aroud ideas on what I need.

Light weight .25-06 with a Zeiss 3x9x50 that I use for my E. Tx gun.
Light Weight .264WM with a Swarovski 4x12x50 that I'll use if I ever go on a western hunt and it's my pretty gun.
.300 WM Ruger No1 with a Leupold LPS 4x16x50 that's kind of an all around blind gun.

What glass should I get for the 7-08? It's synthetic and stainless and too heavy for long hikes in. What little experience I have with this caliber is its a stone killer out to 150 but I know nothing about it after that. I'm not looking to make a long range sniper gun but just sort of an all around gun. It'll most likely be used out to about 200yds on deer and pigs hunting from a blind. That being said if I gain a lot of confidense in it I want to have the glass for a 300yd shot.

I am not interested in anything that says Nikon, Bushnell, or Tasco on it. Thanks in advance guys

Just throw a Leupold 3X9X40 on it and be done with it. I think that caliber is a killer out to 400 or so, its a great caliber with low recoil.

I'm not disagreeing with anyone on here, but if he says its not a long range rifle, why would you go 4X14?? I don't see a need for a 14X magnification if he's shooting under 300 yards (his words).

VORTEX, just because I know what you will say lol. Its hard to beat a leupold vx3 or IV. I think a 4.5x14x50 would be killer.

IMO, a $500 bushnell scope is higher quality than the same priced Leupold. Why dont you put the Swarovski on the gun you use the most? I feel bad for that poor scope having to sit in the safe

You need a Bushnell Elite Firefly 3x9x40?

The .264 won't sit in the safe, it will get some use. Rifles are tools for me. If I'm in a blind (because I don't want this gun scratched up) and in fairly open country where a long range shot may be needed the .264 w/ Swaro is the one. The .25-06 is my public land gun. If I have to hike in a long ways toting my climber and pack I want a light rifle light scope. In E. Tx there's no need in the PL I hunt for long range optics. The .300's are for long range in thick country. I hunted some places in Freer if that sucker got off the Sendero you were in a bind. 180gr to the shoulder will stop that

This is good discussion. I know I could put any good quality scope on there and be set but I like to put a little thought into a large purchase and maybe the most important component in a rifle.

Leupold 4.5-14 in 40 or 50 would be a great choice.

The 3-9x40 or 50 would work... But thats a vx2...

If you go 3.5-10x40 or 50 you jump up to a vx3...

My choice would be Leupold vx iii or vx3 3.5 or 4.5... Just whichever i could find a slamming deal on! ...

As long as you're not trying to make a long-range rig out of it, I'd stick to something slim and trim.........say, a Leupy 2-8x VX-3. Plenty for use inside 300 yds or so.....
