How do u remove roots like this? Help please.

Don't even know what these shrubs / bushes are but they got way out of control and we are trying to remove them. Problem is the roots on these things are all intertwined and seems impossible to find a "central " root or tap root? Any suggestions would be appreciated.

I'd hit it with roundup (I use the generic) first and see if that will do it. It's just an exercise infrustration trying to dig/pull 100% of the roots of an invasive plant.

          Yes, an exercise in frustration.

Was the machete useful for getting rid of the roots or the frustration?

round up kills only what it touches. It will not kill what will grows from the stalins or rizones.

Thats not entirely true. On most species it kills the roots too if you get a good dose on the foliage. It will even kill johnson grass rhizomes in the fall.

I believe that is Nandina. Unfortunately you will have to dig that up to kill it. It is on the Texas invasive plant list and a bad ornamental.

that's a shrub, the name escapes me currently. ( i have them in my yard)
the roots grow like elephant ears.. and will put off new plants if cut.

                              till the area! 2-4" deep.

I pulled the ones from my front yard and had to fight for a season. (weed eater mainly) if you can keep the leaves from gathering light the roots will die.. (this is the alternative to poison or oil and tainting the soil)

                              nandina something???

main thing is chop up the soil 2-4" deep and rake the area
