Anyone not NOT hunting this year?

    Wow...can't get the title right...oops.
Anyone else in the same boat as me with no where to hunt this year?
All my usual haunts for elk, deer, and goats all fell through this year for one reason or another and with the rising (and ridiculous) cost of hunting anymore, the funds don't allow for much in the way of guided hunts in or out of state. This'll be the first full (bow and rifle) season in 12 years I've sat out and I'm not sure I like it much....guess I'll need to live vicariously through y'all this year. Somebody whack a booner for me!

That is all. Rant over. Thanks for letting me get that off my chest.

I thought CO had tons of public land you can hunt? Hunting is only as expensive as one makes it. A person can start from scratch with no equipment and kill a deer for less than $300 that includes gun, ammo, license, gas, ect. sorry bout all your normal hunts falling through.

I was in that boat last season. Not fun at all, but I created a few opportunities to get in the woods by finding some affordable hunts. Seek and ye shall find.

As mentioned, I'd be all over the public lands hunting the heck out of 'em.

Unless my dad takes me to his lease then nope, not going. Money decision early in the year. Sucks but hoping an exotic next spring and I'm planning on joining a lease next year.

Tons of public land, yes, but it's mixed in with tons of private land and usually quite the drive to get to. People up here are very secretive and highly perturbed if you start tromping around "their" honey hole and no one will tell you where to go. Makes it tough to justify the gas expense to go somewhere that, more than likely (CO has a 16% success rate) you won't get a shot, let alone see any animals. Kinda like gambling without looking at your cards at all. Gotta stack the deck in your favor when you can.

Grant, I agree with this reply. Yes, i hunt private land here in Arkansas some, but 80% of my hunting is National Forest up in the mountains bowhunting from the ground. Dont sit a season out......

Don't want to sit the season out, but like I said above, with the secretive people and the enormous tracks of ground, it's tough to find a spot that isn't 4+ hours drive that holds game. I've found you gotta hunt a place for 3+ years to really figure it out. Maybe I'll take drive and search out a spot. Or call in some favors to find a spot to go....

If it takes three years to figure a place out you better start now. Ain't gonna learn any younger!
You said that you had stuff fall through, what is to keep that from happening next year too. If you go out a few times this year with the intention of scouting for next year then it won't be as disappointing if you don't shoot anything, but if you do it will be a huge bonus!

This thread would be epic if it ended with a public land ldp

I'm in the same boat minus the public land. Hard to find public land in central Texas may try a cheap hog hunt to curve the appetite for blood but it's hard to replace whitetail with a nasty ol pig.

We Texans do the same thing but drive 12-15 hours and pay $575 for a tag. How much is your tag?

                              Just sayin'.
