if you were buying a spotting scope

why would you buy straight vs the angled.

Never owned one but I'd like to get a nice one and want to make sure I think through the applications.

angled....dont have a good reason other than it seems easier to view.....instead of getting staight in front of the eye piece

It totally depends on how you are going to use it. I have a two straight ones , because most of the viewing is done with it either clamped to the window(with a window mount) or off of a small tripod thrown up quickly on the hood of the hunting vehicle. If you are going to use it where it is set up on a larger tripod, then you might want to go with an angled one. To me, it is easier to find animals a little quicker with the straight eyepiece. Just my opinion.

get an angled one if you intend to use it from a tripod or truck window, get a straight if you intend to mount it on a rifle stock attachment for quick pointing at game

I highly suggest you test drive both options and see what's most comfortable for you

I prefer the straight and have used both Kowa and Nikon ED spotters

I use them 90% for rifle range and shooting , 10% of time for in the field

I like straight just because its easier to tell where it is pointing and find what you are looking for.

I like straight, just seems more versatile.

Straight if you are going to use it for whitetail hunting. Mount it on an old gun stock. I'd go angled if you are going to the mountains where you sit and glass. Swarovski HD is the best.

I have a Zeiss in the straight.I like it because you can set it on a sand bag and still focus.Even if your in the mountains I like a straight eye piece because I like to get up high and look down.I have the 85 but heat waves really mess with you so I think the 65 would be fine.

arrowsmith posted up deep discounts for tbh'rs on vortex, I've always wanted one. It will be used at the rifle range or checking out whitetails. Maybe and elk trip in the future but for now limited to gun range and whitetail watching.

Depends on the kind of hunting you will be doing.

I use mine to glass for mulies and elk from up high to down low. The straight works better for my needs since I don't have to cant my head down.

Now, glassing from low to high, definately get a angled.

Using it on the range, looking at the neighbor's wife, or on senderos....then get a straight.

If you plan on climbing and glassing down or across from ridges, I personally like the straight.......If you are planning to glass the sides of hills or mountains from a low area or valley, I would go with the angled version.

I have a cheaper straight scope which is OK out to 40x on a sunny day. When I go out to 60x it is blurry and the eye relief is not great. Depending on your budget, I would at least look at mid-grade.
