I have been doing the same job for almost 14 years...... I’m burned out. But at my current position I have a lot of flexibility. As long as I get my work done I pretty much make my own schedule and come and go as I please and commute is only about 30 minutes. But like I said I am getting very burned out. There are several job openings available at other companies that I feel I am very qualified for and have a great shot at getting and would be the next step in my career. But they would require working in the down town office which would require about an hour commute in horrible traffic (Houston). The work would be much more challenging but not sure how flexible the schedule would be. The biggest thing I worry about is having a 3 year old. I want to be a hands on dad....attend school functions, little leage, ect....not sure I would be able to do this as easy in a "corporate" position vs where I am now. But I would financially be able to do allot more and be happier in the new position. Any advice???????

Money isn't everything but happiness is. I love my current full time employment and I'm at the top of the totem pole as well which allows flexibility. But, I've been offered other positions at agencies with longer commute with more pay.. Keep in mind that every company has pros and cons. You'll like one thing and not the other. Keep the faith, talk to God and just follow your heart. He'll lead you down the right path.

I can't tell you what to do, but I do believe your family should take first priority. If that means staying where you are, then suck it up and stay. If it means moving up, then do that. I have never been a big fan of change, and burning out in a job is not something I've ever faced, so I can only give you fairly general advice. I can say that I will pray for you in this decision as it is a very important one. A couple questions: Have you talked this over with the wife? does your current company have something else for you to do so you can stay in the general vicinity? Knowing you have better offers might motivate them to find you something else within the company.

2. Currently I work at a field office and I am at the top of the chain for the location. Their could possibly be a position avalible in the future where they would let me office at my current location but no garantee..... I feel like IF I am going to make a move now is the time. I am still young and marketable but yet have a fair amount of experiance.

STAY PUT! Way to sketchy regardless of what you know is out there! I work in a industry full of people whom think if they move they will find something different, a change is nice type mentality! They justify it with pay, or I just needed too??? However, wind up regretting every minute of it.
Family first, finances second, and if your lucky to have both in check, plus flexibility your an extremely blessed man!
