I ve got an invite to Kansas, 2,000 acres in Unit 3(Russell) , and was wondering when the best time to go was....to catch the Gobbling and strutting. Anyboby been there? Season is from Apr 9-May 31.
Hey Ronnie........that's it..........i have nothing to add! Ain't a turkey hunter so can't help ya with that one. Oh, have you seen any black bears up that way?
Oscar, this will be my first trip. I hear there are tons of turkeys up there.....not to mention the deer(Still trying to get a chance to deer hunt there)
I would reccomend going the latest possible. Maybe the last weekend of April. Rios will be henned up earlier in the season, but will still be gobbling good later in the season.
I think it's pretty dependent on the weather. I went last year in late April and drove through a blizzard...it was crazy. Hunted not too far from there, to the north and west, and had nothing but Easterns.....it was AWESOME!!!
I have hunted KS many years. It is pretty much like down here, like mentioned above, largely wether dependant. Sometimes they are hot early and somtimes late. I generally had a little better luck mid way through. Warms up a bit but no too hot. a few hens sitting already. I had most of my luck early afternoon to evening after hens left for the nest and toms were out looking. Not really that different from turkey hunting anywhere. Depennds upon the weather.
