    Dog jumping fence

My lab has realized he can jump my fence ( 5 1/2 ft wooden pickets) and I need to get a temporary solution figured out ASAP. Anyone have any suggestions that are cost effective and don't take forever. I thought about a hot wire (not
Sure how difficult that is to install) or adding boards on the inside to stick up
Higher. Building him a small kennel is a last resort.

Hot wire is super easy to install and not too expensive. I would run it around the top, inside of the fence. You can get insulators that you have to nail onto the wood.

Hot wire the bottom too so when he touches the bottom he will be grounded. My lab was going over my 6' fence (and some of my neighbors where his girlfriends lived) so I put a hot wire on top of it. Didn't stop him till I put one around the bottom and he got hit a few times.
FYI to all: Don't assume your 6' privacy fence will keep out a lustful lab!! Mine could climb either side of a fence in a couple of seconds.

              Any recommendations for what unit
To buy? Talked to tractor supply and they have 2 mile units , 5 mile, etc. the perimeter of my fence is probably 200 ft max.

Before you spend money. Have you tried a leather belt?

solar powered fence charger is under $100 at tractor supply. That's what I had to do to keep my Siberian Husky in my yard...fence isn't even on anymore...but he knows the wire's there and he won't touch it...a couple of zaps and they learn to leave it alone!

Might want to get the next one up or at least keep the box if it doesn't zap him hard enough you can return it. I have a 10 mile box on 2 acres. It will zap the crap out of you but every one respects the fence. Some dogs ignore the 2 mile boxes, the coon dog I had did.

Don't forget a ground rod and clamp.

Yeah Im a fence contractor and when you have a dog that jumps its tough. The hot fence is probably the best option, just run it about the height his nose is and make sure you drive the ground rod as far as you can to give it plenty of pop.

P.S. maybe tie some orange marking ribbon on the wire so that visitors see it. Unless they are unwanted visitors. Ha!

I was thinking of putting the wire towards the top of the fence. He isn't clearing the fence, he is getting part of the way up and climbing the rest. Where should i place the wire?

If you put a wire up top you will also have to put a ground wire about half way up. He will need to be grounded to get zapped.

Hot wire works on me and the dog. If you get wet mowing and you step over you better not let those wet pants touch the wire and you touch the gate at the same time ouch!!!
