Need Help With Steel Building Project

Hello TBHers, I am in need of some advice, suggestions and references if you have any. I am getting ready to build a steel building (shop/garage) on my land and I am looking to see if any of ya'll have done this lately or in the process. I have never done this and I am looking for any help I can get to make sure I make the right choices and have all the knowledge possible.

I am looking at getting a Whirlwind Steel Building out of Houston. If I use this company I will have to find my own contractor to build, concrete contractor, engineer, etc.. Does anyone have other suggestions of a good company? Maybe a company that does the whole package i.e supplies building, concrete slab, engineering person.

If you are in this line of business, please feel free to contact me at 281-734-6322 or email me at srd322@aol.com. Any help will be much appreciated !!!

    Thank you in advance,
    Stephen

I would think that Whirlwind should have all of that information. How big of a project are you talking about?

Have you checked with any other building companies. I know Mueller has some great looking buildings.

Ahhhhh......i don't know! I just want one lane for the range, the rest is for the 31 foot Travel Trailer, stands, ATV, golf cart, freezers, trailer, refrigerators.....
man, the list is getting long! I am currently spending $112 a month for storage and it is packed solid.

No I agree, was kinda thinkin it wouldnt be big enough. Im in the same boat. 35 foot 5th wheel, ranger...trailer for ranger, all my gear, kids stuff...etc... - Space is getting cramped, and Im paying to much for storage as well. I will be paying close attention also, hoping to get some good starting points. Wife and I have been talking about building for months....

Oscar, you should build your building in multiples of 20'. Custom engineering of parts will drive the cost through the roof, cause everything has to be made to fit. from the purlins to the sides and roof. So you should really build a 80x40, and you will find a way to fill the extra space quickly. I know someone that could possibly do the stuff in the N. TX area if someone needs the info.

I am about to build a 30x40 and have got several good references on these guys.

Texas quality metal and steel buildings with 5" concrete slabs,turn-key erection, installed overhead doors any many more options.Avaiable in 50 Texas counties.

They have a design it and price it section on the site and hopefully it will give you some ideas. I had the concrete guy out this past weekend and the slab for it is going to be around $6.50 sf. I still need to talk to an electrician about the wiring cost.

My best advice would be to "Get a time line in writing". No offense, but it is a pain waiting and waiting and then waiting some more.
