SPLAT! Anyone ever had this happen?

I have pictures, but not sure you want to see me without a shirt

I was field dressing a doe on Saturday and when I was pulling out the heart and the inner workings, all of a sudden...

SPLAT!!!!

I was covered in blood from chest to shoes...

Luckily I took my shirt off first before cutting in so I wouldn't get the sleeves all blood.

Has anyone ever had this happen?

What was it that broke that made all of the remaining blood come shooting out with force?

It was probably from the blood trapped by the diaphragm in the chest cavity. The diaphragm is dome-shaped, and considerable amount of blood can collect around the back side - between the diaphragm and the back chest wall. It works the same with us (I work with heart surgeons).

Usually get it on the face and hair/hat...then it's Oh C#@!&
Often happens in the thorax/neck area....there's always 1 pocket of blood waiting for me to jerk when seperating the chest plate


Also, depends on the shot...since that was a heart shot....you got all the glory

That happened to me with a steak at Texas Road house about a tear ago.It looked like I slaughtered the cow right there.

How do you hang them to skin them? Head up or back feet up?

I use a rope in a tree with a piece of rebar between the legs.

had that happen to me before,i gut them on the ground now.

I've never dressed one hanging. Now I guess I know why.

I did just learn that if you finish one off with a knife, you are liable to get a faceful of blood.
