Survival kits for high country hunts?

My friend is going on a DIY elk hunt in Colorado this september(i'll be joining him next year). I wanted to get him a survival kit but need some advice. Should I buy things seperately? What is most important to pack in, what should a good kit have in it, and is there a company that sells pre-made kits that are good/well supplied? The closest town is about a 40 mile drive so more is better(I think).Thank you, Stick.

I just got one of the bear grills Gerber Ones for my hunt. Seems to have lots of good stuff.

That's a sweet of you to buy your buddy a man gift

few factors go into the kit first how big of a kit you looking to make?

      start with the 5C'S
      1. Cutting tool
      2. Container
      3. Combustion
      4. Cover
      5. Cordage

His plans are base camp then set-up a spike camp several miles in. I just wanted something he could pack in and carry with him while he is chasing elk from spike camp.

i would make it yourself. better quality stuff and cheaper.

for small pack here is a few things off the top of my head

para cord, bank line and small bungee cord
metal wide mouth canteen with water treatment tablets
          containers like ziplock bags
          2-3 heavy trash bags
small book of survival plants for that area.
          compass and map of area
          small head lamp extra batteries
          lighter and fire stick
          whistle
          leatherman tool
small fishing kit with hooks and needles
          toilet paper
          a few energy bars
          duct tape
          hunter orange bandanna
3-4 12 inch sharpened metal rods

this will all fit in a fanny size pack with room for a few other things

i would tell your friend to try and carry as many of those items on his person and do not combine the survival pack with his day pack.

it is easy for a hunter to get separated from their packs
