Mini 14 good first deer rifle?

My stepdaughter is 7 and has decided she is on a mission to get her first deer. I can get one of these from a buddy for a good price. I've been thinking I can get a 14 and put an m4 type stock on it. What are the thoughts from the green screen is there a better option. Also I've been wanting one anyways but I can get it approved from the boss easier like this.

I think it's enough to get the job done. I wish I still had mine, traded it for a pistol a few years back. Fun gun to plink with!

Just me, but I wouldn't put a semi auto rifle in a new hunters hands unless it had one round in it.

And a mini14 doesn't have the best accuracy.

Wouldn't be my first choice but it would suffice.

I have heard that they are not the most accurate of firearms, but don't have any personal experience with them myself.

You would be better off with some like the CVA or Rossi single shot from Academy. A guy on my old deer lease had one for his daughters to use and he would use it himself during spike and doe.

If you want something like the Mini 14 then get an AR15. The price isn't that much higher if you build it yourself and you get a more accurate rifle. The only way my Mini 14 is better than my ARs is the mini 14 is more handy since its smaller and lighter.

I'm fine with caliber accuracy is my concern with an experienced marksman, a novice would really worry me.

The only one I ever shot threw groups bigger than a paper plate at 100 yards.

Had one with a scope about 10 yrs ago. Would shoot half dollar size groups at 100. Wish I still had it

Thats what I said. It belonged to a friend. It would reliably go bang, bang, bang very fast but you never knew where the bullet was going.

Thanks for replies. Not wanting a h&r or Rossi had a horrible experience with one my dad bought my mom. Never could get that gun to shoot consistant groups. After a little research I've settled on a savage axis in .223 or an 1894 in 44mag i have sleeping in the safe. Her farthest shot will only be around 75 yds. Though I would like some other thoughts on the 44. I've shot it several times with lever evolution ammo but not with a scope. What yardage would be stretching this gun?

This was my first deer rifle and I would not recommend it. Other than the fact that
                          My grandfather gave it to
Me it does not have many redeeming qualities. The trigger is one of the worst I have shot in any firearm. Accuracy is adequate at best. I killed lots of deer and turkeys w it, but it is certainly not my go to gun.

I bought my son a savage youth model package gun when he first started hunting. Much better option in my opinion.

That would be a fun first rifle. Stick to one bullet at a time.
