At what age or grade is school (Kindergarten) mandatory in TX?

Thankfully, this is not about me or my family, however, I must help my wife deal with hers. I did some research, but all I can come up with is ages 6-18, but doesn't really specify Kindergarten. Is Kindergarten mandatory in TX, specifically Spring, TX? I'm going to keep trying to find out, and am not looking to get anybody into trouble, just trying to get facts straight so I can calmly deal with the situation at hand. I figured I'd ask the mighty Green Screen (and mass of LEO's and Educators here!) Thanks in advance, Eric

I don't know for sure but I don't think kindergarden is mandatory in TX. I have a son going into 2nd grade and I've heard that before. I can't see doing that though. My son learned a lot in kinder including how to read. He's reading at a 3rd grade level and haven't started 2nd yet.

A lot of people are surprised that in LA there is no compulsatory education until 7 years old. Anyone in LA can homeschool as well with no evidence of a curriculum required.

As far as I know it is mandatory and with all that my daughter learned there is no way I'd advise anyone to not send their child. It's not like it was when I was a kid, you actually learn now.

A child is not required to attend school unless he or she is at least six (6) years old on September 1 of the school year. These is straight from Texas Education Department.

That is what I found as well. I just know how much better off my boys were with pre-k and kindergarten. My oldest is in the advanced classes, and I just don't want to see kin of mine get left behind because of poor excuse for parents. Makes my gosh darn blood boil just thinking about it. Thanks for confirming the research I did.

                      Lol, yeah it does.

I'll bet you'd be surprised about most lax education laws around the country. The rub is when we get a 12 year old that has never been in school brought to public school because they "want to play football."
