Like has been said, it is the primary drain line that is clogged.
It could be clogged anywhere from the AC unit all the way to wherever it terminates into another drain connection. These are usually at a special tee connection under a lavatory.
We generally use an air compressor to blow out the line but depending on the where the end of the lines goes, it can cause a mess!
A VERY big mess (especially when connected to kitchen or bathroom sink drains) and a twowel is not put over drain
As JEG advised - the pan in question is inside the air handler where the lines are going into. It may or may not have a service panel. If it doesnt - then you are at a crossroad.
is condensate drain pan (the pan inside air handler under evap) full of water? is the condensate drain line broken (outside of air handler that run along side of aux pan? Handler would have to REALLY be leaning to the right (towards your furnace) for water to be leaking out in that area)? If pan is full of water and leaking out towards furnace your line is clogged at ptrap most likely. With that much water it seems like evap may have frozen and then thawed quickly. Hard to tell. Only thoughts I have right now.
I assume there are no other water lines in that area that may be getting confused with the air handler leaking.
just went thru same thing, primary drain was sluggish, could see water running in cleanout but pan was full enough to have some splash when the blower was running. slow drip out of coil housing. unfortunately coil housing was overhanging secondary pan by a couple inches and of course that is where the water found it's way out of coil housing, thru ceiling and to floor. a/c co came out and cleared/modified drain line and added valve in drain line so I can close it off and blow line clear from now on. told them I wanted to replace the secondary pan as well so it couldn't happen again. came out a week later to replace the secondary pan and in doing so unknowingly knocked the drain piping loose (that they fixed the week before). drained for 3 days before noticed, full condensate flow thru ceiling and onto bed and floor in spare room, soaked carpet from wall to wall.
in the drying out process now with baseboards and carpet padding removed, hole cut in ceiling and attic insulation removed. repair work to start next week.
Wow!!!! I asked for help to find water leak and fixed problem in 2hrs..........can't ask for better help........I can always depen on my TBH brothers to get me out of jams...........I salute all my brothers.......
Glad we could help. Still curious as to why no water flowed into aux pan????? Is there no secondary drain hole from handler that is intended to drain into aux pan or is there just a pan underneath the handler?
The water was over flowing from the 1st pan; it missed the aux pan completely onto the floor. Dont know why but maybe aux pan is not big enough........or 1st pan tilting the wrong way...........
