I have been getting more and more into woodworking and have been very actively searching for a bargain on a good table saw. I was checking all the local craigslists on an almost daily basis. I was looking for an older craftsman saw with a large cast iron top and hopefully a quality fence system. I just couldn't find what i was looking for. Lots of saws for sale but nothing had everything i was looking for unless the price was out of my budget. I found a unit that i could settle for but i drug my feet and it sold.
Here's where it gets interesting.
I am working in Abilene this week (checked their craigslist ads too while i was here!) and i went to hastings to look at their clearance books. I picked up a book about finishing woodwork and tucked it under my arm to look at later. I was browsing through some more books and an older guy comes up behind me and ask if I liked woodworking. Apparently he saw the book under my arm. I said yea i've been getting into it more and more. He asked well do you have a table saw and stuff. I said that is my next purchase i just havent found the right one. Then he said he had one he would sell me for 100 bucks. He was wanting to get a portable saw instead. I asked if he could text me a pic when he got home. He said sure. So last night he sent me a pic. It looked good but was hard to tell too much from the pic and i did not see a fence. I went to look at it when he got off work today and let me tell you it was EXACTLY what i was looking for. It was old enough to be of heavy duty construction but had been very well maintained. It had both cast iron extensions. It had the aftermarket fence system that i think is like 180 bucks. He gave me 2 new dewalt blades and a cabinet with a dust collection cavity. I was very happy.
So what are the odds that i would travel 250 miles from home, happen to go into a bookstore, happen to pickup a woodworking book, a man happen to see the book, and him also happen to be looking to sell the perfect table saw?
I certainly was not praying for a table saw but i can't help but see God's hand in my getting one.
Psalms 37:4
