Why are they called cold air intakes when most of them seem to suck hot air out of the engine compartment? Do the open top ones seal up to the hood? I have been considering it. Just wonder which style is better. Make sense?

They usually suck air from between the engine compartment wall and the fender above the front wheel. My air intake temp dropped 15 degrees according to my evolution tuner. It now is only 1-2 degrees above ambient.
