Corn with buck candy is still the most economical bet.

I have used apples in different places around the state. The closer you get them to a feed source the better. And I usually cut them in half to let the delicious apple aroma(buck candy) into the atmosphere. They will eat them. But I don't think I would ever drop the coin for a truck bed full, especially from a reseller at a farmers market. I would go to the grower and ask for the ones that fell off the trees naturally, or their seconds in bulk.

At our place the pigs would clean them up the first night....they eat EVERYTHING!!!!

Cost of a pickup load of apples would totally depend on totaly on your negotiating skills....I'm sure the cost per lb wouldn't come into play...

I tried to use apples before, our south Texas deer didn't know what they were. They were pushing them out of the way to get corn. They just laided on the ground.

I did know a guy who use to go to a canning place and get a pick up load of reject veggies (like carrots) and put them out. I don't know about the whitetails, but the exotics and sheep were eating them for sure.
