    El Nino Question

I was reading that El Nino is expected to be forming this month or in September. Since I'm a moron when it comes to weather I ask this. Won't El Nino bring us out of this drought? Are we in for a cold wet winter? How long does El Nino typically last? I know we have some weather gurus (Johnny among others) that can enlighten us and hopefully bring us some good weather news for a change.

I wouldnt consider myself a guru in the class of Johnny or bonesplitter, but I know a little.

El Nino's come in varying strengths, but typically they equate to warmer wetter winters since most of our low pressure systems are maritime and not polar. They can last anywhere from a few months to a year or longer.

It could bring us out of the drought, but to do so its going to have to persist and not just last early fall through the spring.

I know this is a question that has so many if's and different circumstances but with an El Nino coming, implying it brings WARMER and wetter winters, will there likely not be a freeze?
