Have skiied all of these Red River, Taos and Ruidoso (Apache)...Taos is not for beginners, Ruidoso is too hard to drive up and down the mountain, and Red River is just about right for a family...all depends on the snowfall amounts.

Plenty of snow up in Northern NM and CO. Taos now has a base of nearly 150 inches. Chama has got close to 12' of snow this winter.

The storm missed southern NM once again with ski apache sitting with a 15 inch base.

I just got back from a 4 day trip to Pagosa Springs, CO. A flight into ABQ and then a 4 hr. car ride will put you into some AWESOME snow at Wolf Creek. We stayed in Pagosa and made the 25 min. drive to the ski area. To use local's words, the mountain is getting "epic pow" right now. I think they've got somewhere near 120"-140" base.

All areas in northern NM and southern CO are getting good snow right now. I've skied Red River, Crested Butte and Wolf Creek. Depending on airfare (if that's the route your going) i'd look into flying to ABQ and then driving to Pagosa Springs, CO or flying into Gunnison and skiing Crested Butte. Have fun and good luck...

What about Albuquerque itself? The Sandia Mountains? The tram that you ride up the mountain is cool from what i remember and they have skiing and such also. I was so little when I did that, can't remember everything.

Just a side note off topic.. the weirdest place I have ever skii'd was in St. Louis, MO. We were there back in 95-96 (cant remember exactly) and they had a huge snow storm. there is a mountain (hill) by the six flags park that has 2 ski lifts and lights for night skiing. Weird stuff to ski in St. Louis.
