Question for the metal building guys

I am building a small shop on my place. The slab is done. The wood frame is done. The r panel, doors and trim have been bought and on my trailer next to the frame. I just got a quote from a guy to hang the roll up door and put up the metal and trim for $1850. I was thinking more like $1100. I could do it myself, I built my house and a smaller 10x10 metal building before but Im tired of working my weekends away. The building is a simple 18' x 30' with a single slope 12' sloping to 10'. One 10x10 rollup one man door and two 3-0 3-0 windows. I have heard the cost to install a rollup is about $2 a sf= $200..... $1.50sf to put up metal. Thats about $1100 for the door and a 540sf building. I was willing to pay $1200 max. I am in the woods about 40mi north of Houston, near Plantersville. Are my numbers about right? What do yall think? All materials are on site.

$1.75-2/ft for the roll up door is reasonable, that's what we charge. I can't help with the rest of the project though...

Thanks. I cant figure out why he is bidding so high. He is out of Navasota which is only about 15mi from me. I actually talked to another local guy that has a 5 man crew and he is the one that gave me the $2 for the door and $1.50 for the metal numbers, but he said he is so busy right now he cant justify doing such a small building with 5 guys. He said it should be about $1100 total......

Check with Chris at L&L Barn. He's close and reasonable (I think anyway...). Pm if you need a number.

I used to do that for a living, that's CHEAP! I can tell you that I wouldn't do it for that.

Hey guys! Not trying to hijack but seems like you work for a company that does this. I am looking to do a 60 x 60 to be used as a banquet hall for an organization. I have prelimanary plans on my computer but need to understand what it may cost to do this project. Not sure why they put me on the committee as I know very little about AC/Heated metal buildings. I would appreaciate any help or guidance you could provide.

Which one is cheap? The $1850 or the $1.50 per sf? Remember, this is putting the door and metal on only. All matl supplied. Frame is done. Hang 10x10' rollup and metal only. 540sf building. He told me it would take his 3 guys a day and a half. Thats about $40/hr min per guy ( actually over $50/hr ) for guys hes is probably paying $12hr. no benefits

No problem. Hopefully we can both get answers.

The hourly rate does seem a little high but remember, he has travel time (limited), equipment wear and employment expenses on top of what he pays his employees. And he may have some mark-up if he is using a sub to hang the door.

I put up metal buildings for 5 years and I can pretty much bet that he's figured in a little $$ to square up the building before he hangs the panel.

I can also tell you that I have trimmed-out and hung panel on a 30x30 single slope building (no insulation) using only 2 people in 20 manhours. His bid sounds in line, labor-wise.

It depends on how much trim he has to install, how many sheets of panel that have to be cut to length and how square the framing is before he starts.

Good luck to you! Post pic's when it's done.

There is minimal cutting required. Other than around the doors and windows only the panels on each end will have to be cut ( 12pcs ). His labor cost for the employees is probably pretty low. The reason I say that is because he stated that they dont even speak english...... ( yall dont go getting mad....its just that many times if they dont speak english they are more likely to work for low pay ) It looks like I'll have to do it myself at this point. $1200 is my max.
