    missouri trout fishing questions

    Hey ya'll

Im heading to missouri next week for a little family reunion and while I'm up there I found a nice spot on roaring river state park not far form where i will be and i was going to do some trout fishing.

ive never been trout fishing except for on the coast and was wondering if i can get some guidance on what baits and tackle I should use to be successful. Any information will be useful!

been to the roaring river a few times ive loved it. i only used a fly rod but a ultra light or light spinning rod will work they have a really nice full service lodge store that has a bunch of tackle in it. you wont find much trout stuff down here but small spinners work well and small soft baits work good too never used dought baits but im sure they work as well.

my grandparents dont live far from the state park and i was going to bring a few baitcasters and now i think i will trade one of two of them for my ultra lights. when did you go up there? I know the fishing around here has been a little crappy but hopefully its different up there.

Marjo and I stayed at montauk this year fishing caught a lot of trout. Use ultra light tackle and light line. Nothing over 4 lb in the morning, 2 pound line in the afternoon. I love fishing up in Missouri. Have a good time. Good luck, Paul.

Has the high water temps been affecting the river there as it has in other midwest states where the fish are dying by the thousands? I am not familiar with the area you are talking about, but, this might be an issue.

Spinning tackle with light line (think 4#) will work well for you in the areas where its allowed. The river is divided into sections where different types of bait and tackle are designated. You can get a map at the office there. I'd leave the bass tackle at home. If you do flies, a 3 wt rod will work fine. I caught some nice trout on in-line spinners, i.e. Blue Fox in fire tiger and a silver color. When I was there, the fly guys were big on terrestrials (ants, grasshoppers, etc.)

I have always had good luck drifting 3 salmon eggs (green lid balls of fire) on a small treble light line no weight.
