    Gun Guys ... scattergun question

So, I aquired a 12ga Auto (JC Higgins Mod 60), but it is Full Choke. Can I cut 1-1/2" off & open th choke up? Or, can it be tapped for chokes?

Cutting the barrel will leave it with no choke also known as cylinder bore. It may be possible to thread it for chokes. You would need to talk with a gunsmith that does that kind of work and it may not be cost effective.

i would just leave it as a full choke.

It can be threaded for multiple screw-in chokes.

Talk to a gunsmith to see if it's feasible on that particular gun..

you might be able to just buy a new barrel that has the chokes option. And just keep that barrel as a back up. I did this with a rem 1100

A gunsmith will have to mic the barrel wall to confirm OD.

If its less than .825" , not sure custom chokes can be installed

The going rate is $100 plus the cost of the chokes , it could easily run you $150

Yup, this was just confirmed by a buddy at a local gunshop. Says it can be reamed out to Imp Cyl tho fer $30-40. Prolly gunna go that route.

                Thx for th input folks!

If you're a bad shot , I recommend a Bradley white front bead and a center bead on the rib .... It will help you focus and line up the shot

If you are a bad shot I would go without any beads. A shotgun should be pointed not aimed.

Your cheapest route would be to take it to a gun smith and just get him to open it up some. It would still be a fixed choke gun but it will save you a couple hundred bucks! Lt. Mod. Would be my suggestion .015 less than your bore! Good luck!
