    East TX Food Plot

For those that hunt in East TX. What have you found that the deer really like for your food plots? Also, has anyone used the new "Texas Draw" by Biologic?

Don't plant peas until you can afford to plant about 10 acres but 10 acres will only last you about 10 days once they start eating them.
Oats and Rye grass will work good. (the rye is just to keep it pretty all winter). I have never had any luck with Brassicas.

Imperial whitetail clover has always come up and worked well for us, and it's perennial.

Yup, been there. One year outside of nacogdoches, my grandpa and I planted 7 or 8 acres worth of peas. We got rain and they started coming up real nice so I was really excited. I called my grandpa a week or so later to check on things and he said all the peas were gone. Deer ate every sprout up in one or two nights. Needless to say I was bummed.

I think Kroll may have pulled them and moved them to his site.

Lablab mix worked great for me for a summer food plot and we normally plant oats and peas for a winter food plot.

put about an acre of throw-in-grow down this spring and they have been on it the last two months. i was really glad the rain keep the natural browse green this year because it let my plots get established before they got on them.

We planted a spring plot from DK seeds last spring. Came in really good even with hardly any rain but the deer mowed it down in a few days.

by far the best is a mix of winter wheat and bob oats with some various clovers mixed in. If you plant peas hogs will come dig them up the next day and ruin your food plot. I have planted Kale with my other stuff as well, but it never does well. Back in the day in San Augustine county we planted turnips that did well along with wheat and oats. In reality though if you just buy a bag of oats and a bag of wheat along with a couple bags of 18-7-7 or even triple 13 fertilizer you will have enough to have a patch dang near an acre big for less than eighty bucks. The mixes downside (biologic and such) is that they contain various sized seeds and its not posible to get them planted at the same time at the right depths
