Garrett Reid in 2007. (AP)The Philadelphia Eagles team said a prayer before its Sunday morning practice, and observers noted that head coach Andy Reid was not present at the team's walk-through. Eagles general manager Howie Roseman announced that he would make a brief statement after practice, at which time he announced that Reid's 29-year-old son, Garrett, was found dead on Sunday morning in his room at the team's Lehigh, Pa., facility.

"I have some heartbreaking news to share with you all," Roseman said in the statement. "It is with great sadness that I tell you that Garrett Reid, the oldest son of coach Reid, was found dead this morning in his room here in training camp. It is a tough morning for all of us in the Eagles family. Garrett grew up with this team, and that makes this news even harder for us to process. Our hearts go out to Andy, Tammy, Britt, Spencer, Crosby and Drew Ann. Coach has spent the morning informing his family.

"We ask sincerely that you respect the family's privacy during this time ... From a football perspective, I can tell you that Andy has asked that we go forward with training camp. On a personal note, we've been with Andy for a long time. He's always been strong for us, we're going to be strong for him right now. As a father and a friend, we're all hurting."

The cause of death is unknown at this time. According to Reuben Frank of CSN Philly, Reid was found dead at 7:20 a.m., and efforts made to revive him by officers at the scene were unsuccessful. This was per Lehigh University Chief of Police Ed Shupp.

The younger Reid, who had a well-documented series of struggles with drug abuse, had made great efforts to turn his life around. Andy Reid mentioned recently to more than one reporter that he was happy to have his son on hand at Lehigh to assist the team's strength and conditioning staff.

The team announced that offensive coordinator Marty Mornhinweg and defensive coordinator Juan Castillo will oversee the team in Andy Reid's absence.

We will not speculate as to the cause of death -- instead, we will simply offer our condolences to the Reid family and the Philadelphia Eagles organization, and promise to post more news when it becomes available.

Man that is sad. Isn't that son #2 he has lost?

I saw it on TV and thought they were doing some special on Andy Reid and it was a replay to his first.

Never mind..I thought he had had another son die prior to and that is not the case. ...it looks like the first thing with Andy Reid's sons' was drug addicition, dealing and arrests.

Sad deal. I think it was the old Colts' coach that had also lost a son.
