Dont get me wrong Texas is great but that high country is so beautiful. I spent several years working all over it in oil exploration surveying, got to see parts of that country most will never see. Here lately its been playing heavy on my mind that there could be a better life out there for me and my family. Things are great now, but feel im missing out on bigger things in life. Do you ever have that feeling your in a rut and cant get out? I hate it!!!

I thought about it real hard not to long ago. Had a job offer in Montana but decided to turn it down. I don't have any siblings, so nobody would be here for my parents if they needed help. Just couldn't take their granddaughter (my daughter) away from them and didn't want to be all the way up there if they needed us.

I did some years back, went to Wisconsin after 22 years here, took up archery and hunting and hunted Buffalo County for 5 of the 7 years I lived there, fished for walleyes, northerns and muskies. Got addicted to bowfishing and saw bears just walking around and more Eagles than I could count some days. Hunted Canada as well. Saw places where Capone and Dillinger hung out, and salmon fished Lake Michigan. It was great at the time.
At the time, I felt like I was in a rut and decided to just move. Being a nurse, I can get a job anywhere so I said what the heck. Got tired of the cold, the too short of summers and came home to Texas.
My advice, if you have a job or are in a field you can do it, then do it. Otherwise, you will regret not doing it. You will always wonder, "What if". Life's too short. See and experience as much of the world you can. The bills will always be there. Your health may not.

Funny, thats how I ended up here in TX. Most likely, in 6 years when I retire from the Army, I will find a real job and stay here. In laws call me a "darn" Yankee. From the Johnston dictionary-a Northerner who marries a Texan and then doesn't move back....I've lived all over the US, and another couple states may call our name during the Fall, Texas just feels right to all of us.
To the OP, your heart will lead you where you will end up....

I start thinking about it about June 15 every year becasue I dread the oinferno in July and August. I think I just need to go to Colorado's western slope for a couple of months each summer. I'll never leave Texas, my roots, my family, and almost all of my friends are here. We just need three things: mountains, rivers, and cooler summers.
