All of my current ARs shoot STEEL and BRASS ammo FLAWLESSLY.

If you have an AR that is finicky , they you have either
GAS / CLEANING / HEAD SPACING issues.

My question for you is this ---

DO YOU WANT TO RELY ON A WEAPON THAT ONLY SHOOTS BRASS ?

I need/want all weapons that I rely on to function whem i pull the trigger.
If you have a finicky gun - get rid of it or fix it.
I hope you never have to use it for defense.
    Foreign or Domestic.

    Well said....

And I agree.. All of my weapons eat whatever I feed them. On several occasions I have ran several 1000 rds of steel case lacquer coated ammo through mine during a class with brass mixed in and never a problem, but then again Im not one of "those guys" that runs a dry system, I run my weapon extremely wet and it has never failed me in any condition.

Quality parts play a factor, but that is a whole other pissing match to which I could care less about..

All mine will shoot steel and has, and might again if need be however I prefer to shoot brass out of them.
The coated steel leaves the coating behind after the weapon gets hot and then cools again making it harder to clean, and I dont need that.

Edit: So Dale you think the lube you are using keeps the lacquer from sticking?
      Which you using.

Mine will run either. That being said I voided the warranty running steel through it. Dang it.

Heck no....nothing keeps the poop from building up eventually... I did however clean mine very well after a week of hard use after classes, it gets NASTY..but dry system usally need to be beat apart sometime during the week or they break extractors

          My lube......Pennzoil synthetic 30 weight

I dont run mine extremally wet like you do but a good coat of Mobile One Syn. and shes good to rock.
Also I do take it in every now and again and have my smith do a big teardown and clean for me. He runs some kind of autoclave on some parts.

            Ooops---Sorry for the hi-jack.

I have to admit i'm new to the AR world. I have my bolt guns and they are brass only...
BUT my son has taught me VIA hard earned experience that a WET AR IS A GOOD AR and so far i'm still listening...

(in my bolt gun/shotgun world, you wipe away excess ) so it's a very difficult thing for me to digest between the two

no jams or problems thus far switching between the two (brass and steel in a WET AR)..

just to give my very green/laymans terms view to wet.. squirting waaaay toooo much oil on everything that moves, as my son puts it

still wipe away excess on the other guns tho..

When I bought my AR first thing I did was clean the gun and learn how to break it down and put back together. Then I bought 200 rounds of cheap steel ammo and we had fun at the farm one morning. Cleaned the gun the next weekend and I shocked how dirty it was. Then I bought 200 rounds of Federal Brass ammo. Cleaned it two weeks later and I swear the brass is a whole lot cleaner. I never bought steel again. Walmart has the Federal Brass for $39.99 for a 100 round value pack and I have stuck with that ever since the first box.

Go online and buy that same ammo in bulk and save you some money enven with shipping. Bout 60-90 bucks per 1000 rounds... Just a thought.

No.. That is the savings over buying it at walmart in the 100's... I realize that looks like im getting a hell of a deal... If i knew where to buy 1000 rounds for 60-90 bucks id go into business.

                          Sorry.

That is what I meant. At Wally world you pay 400/1000 rounds. Cheapest online I have found is around 350/1000 rounds and that is all in including shipping. So is there somewhere to get 223 ammo for 310/1000 rounds with shipping? Not talking about the resin coated stuff.

My rock river freakin hates steel but I sure love it's price.

No problems with hornady steel but wolf and brown bear don't fare to well.

Well it looks like I'll stay with brass in the AR.
The SAR will just have to continue shooting steel.
