    Soybeans???

I thought there was a thread about soybeans a while back, but I couldn't find it.

Anyway, I am thinking about feeding soybeans. I hear the deer will tear it up. For those who feed protein or have fed soybeans before, what are the negatives and positives? Also, can you put soybeans in a spin feeder like corn? I know that soybeans can be a little high in price so don't worry about putting that as a negative.

    Shane,

Go to Leopolds in Nada and get roasted soybeans. The deer will anhilate it. Put some out Sat morning in Ganado

High protein. High cost. I've fed them in the past and it took the deer awhile to start eating them. If I wanted something to throw in my sling feeder that's better than corn, it would be soybeans. From a gravity feeder for a more complete supplement, it would be pellets. Pellets are generally cheaper and have more minerals, vitamins, etc.

I had some left in the shed that still looked good. I think it is about hte same price a protien right now and I feed it through my spinners, just knock down the spin time some as it does dispense more than corn.

I need to call feed stores down there and see if i can get a Vita Ferm Power Keg mineral block.

Oh and I think if you have your own bags, it is cheaper to buy in bulk at Nada.

I fed soybeans mixed with milo and I don't think they liked it as well as corn. I also think they are still eating acorns.

gotta put price it's my only negative and yes mix it in spin feeder just fine, just try and not throw outside of pen if you have one, the livestock love 'em too!

we have best luck with them here when they are still green or after the corn is picked.

I am sure some are a little better than me, so can someone find the thread that was from either earlier this month or in December sometimes about soybeans? I actually thought soybeans was in the title, but I can't seem to find it.

another experience i had with Soybeans in the past was that the deer stopped eating them once their velvet was off...kinda weird

I saw some dryland soybean foodplots last year that were shoulder high on big bucks but I'd bet it ain't gonna rain that much this year.

I feed soybeans for about 1 year. The deer did like it. I am not sure they liked it more then Purina Antler Max but they would eat them just fine. If cost is of no concern then, they are great and you can feed them in a spin cast feeder with no problems. The last time I bought them they were $10.50 per 50lbs. I pay $8.50 per 50 of the Antler max 20% protein so that is one reason I do not still use the soybeans.

I have used a mixture (Buck Blend) of roasted soybeans, corn, and protein pellets in a BossBuck freechoice feeder next to my corn slinger. The only thing I can tell that eats it is the racoons and birds.
