    Rem 700 extractor - question

I've never seen a Rem model 700 extractor fail until this past weekend when my ol' faithful gun stopped extracting. Shooting the .308, one shell experienced a partial case head separation, and the resultant high pressure gas apparently warped the extractor. The extractor now easily rotates about 40 degrees around the interior of the bolt head (rattles around).

This was the newer style of rivetless extractor. Where can I pick up a replacement?

My suggestion, send your bolt to Rem and have them inspect the bolt face and install a new extractor .

That's a great thought. I hadn't considered any structural bolt damage from a single case head separation, but it is possible I guess.

      Thanks Cajun.

If you know of a good smith they can mill it out to accept a Sako style extractor and is much stronger then the factory extractor. Buddy of mine did it to his 300 RUM after his snapping on a hunt.
