    need mechanic advice

got a 2004 gmc yukon. the driverside ac stops blowingcold and blows very hot air instead.all the other vents are still blowing cold air. it will then start working properly on its own.it goes back and forth. could this be a relay that energizes the flapper/damper between the heat core and the evaporator?

the damper should be vacuum...but is this split comfort zones?

sounds like a blend door /motor issue. most likely a electric or vacuum servo

Small electric servo motor controls the mix doors. Happened on my 2004 chevy truck. Sold the truck before I fixed it but supposedly you have to take the bottom part of the dash completely apart to fix it.

sound like if you duct tape that vent shut it will be all fixed.....

dampers are in the middle over the center hump

I'm pretty sure you have to pull most of the dash out.

Major pain in the rectum. Chevrolet engineers did not plan on the average man having to tear into that system

This system has a left and right electric actuator that controls position of temp doors. The left hand actuator is located on the bottom of the HVAC casework on the passenger side near centerline of the vehicle. It can replaced in a matter of minutes with the proper tools. The right hand actuator is located on top of the casework and requires removing most of the dash to replace. The actuator on the left end of the casework above the accelerator is NOT a temp actuator, but controls where the air is delivered (mode actuator).
Ck postings from a few days ago and you will find a thread that gives recalibration procedure and other discussion points on this problem. Remove right trim panel under dash to gain view of this actuator. If vehicle has a console, the work is tighter but can be done without removing console.
