Let me preface this with a disclaimer: I know nothing about this camera and only time will tell if it is decent or not. Ok, on with the possible deal.
I was at Wal-Mart to buy bulk packages of C batteries and decided to walk thru the sporting goods section (thats a stretch at the Wal-Mart near me). I spot a red tag on a game/trail camera. Further inspection shows that this camera is a Tasco (I know, I know, not a very good name brand). Next to the Tasco is a Bushnell camera, though I cant remember the model. The Tasco is red tag priced at $50. The Bushnell is priced at $99. I check the stats/features of the Tasco and for comparison, I check the Bushnell. I begin to notice that both cameras are very similar in size, shape, design. I even notice that both packages have the same wording or phrasing of features which was not common, e.i. when it listed the batteries required they both said "user supplied". Most companies say, " not included".
The Tasco was small, IR, a should do everything I need it to do. the mega pixels are not that high and the PIR has a less than desired range but still workable. I pulled out the trusty Iphone and a quick Google search confirmed my suspicions that Tasco is indeed owned and operated by Bushnell. This deal was looking better. The Tasco also has a 2 year warranty. I decided, what the heck, its worth a shot. I took two of them off the rack and headed to the check out. The clerk asked me if I wanted the additional Wal-Mart protection warranty on the cameras for $6 each. I asked him how it worked and he explained that it begins when the manufacturors warrant expires, last for one year, and will either be repaired, replaced, or full purchase price refunded. So for roughly $65 dollars each, I have a game camera under at least some type of warranty for 3 years.
If the cameras turn out to be crap, I am not out that much money, if they turn out to be decent, I made a heck of deal. I am thinking about going back and buying the last two they had on the shelf. I just wanted to pass the information on to the greenscreen. I know its a risk, but for the hunters on a tight budget, it could end up being a smoking deal. Like I said at the beginning of this rather lengthy public service announcement....Time will tell.
