To start off I want to say Thanks to Toby and Buzz for a great weekend. I was invited by a friend of mine, Toby, to go on an exotic hunt in South Texas. This is a huge thrill for me since I had never actually seen an exotic in person. The hunt started on Thursday morning when we stopped off at Cabelas to pick up some new Rage broad heads. Then we were off to Brackettville for a weekend hunt at the Dutch Mountain Ranch. This place is awesome; it had Axis, Black Buck, Hogs and Whitetail deer.
As soon as we arrived we got unpacked and ready for the evening hunt, I sat in a tripod called "10 point" I found out later why. About an hour after I got in the blind I had 3 hogs and 2 Whitetail in range, and one of them was the biggest 8 point I had ever seen in person. I wanted a shot at an Axis doe so I was content just watching them. All of a sudden a huge 10 point walked out. WOW... I was really wishing I had not left my video camera in Austin. Since I was hunting for an Axis doe all I did was watch, and my weekend could have ended there, and I would have been happy, but lucky for me it didn't.
The next morning I was in a different tripod called "Riverwell" and about 10 minutes after sunrise I had 15 Axis and about 8 Whitetail in range. After watching for about 30 minutes I was able to get a clear shot at a beautiful Axis doe. She was about 30 yds out and I was able to hit her with my new Rage BH. WOW that Rage is effective... after I recovered her I went to check on my friend Toby who was able to take his first Black Buck.
I want again to say thanks to Buzz and Toby for a great weekend and an experience that I will never forget.
