    help with axis

Being from Louisiana, never hunted axis until I moved out here near San Antonio. Got on a lease and we have a pretty healthy herd of axis. I've got three feed Pens set up feeding a protein/corn blend. Would love to get the axis that I see regularly in person actually on the cameras at feed pens. Anybody have any suggestions how to lure them in the pen?

Wish I could help, but really the only suggestions I see on here when people are in situations like yours are to use alfalfa.

alfalfa bale on the ground! Just throw it out, I dont even remove the wire I make them work for it and it last alot longer. 3 days vs just one night.

This, but I don't leave wire or hay string laying around at all. Just cut it off and throw it away. I had a big red stag get some in his antlers and get in a fight with another good sized bull. They got tied together and fell into the lake and both drowned. Never leave hay string out.

Go to the feed store and buy a square bale of alfalfa, throw it in the feed pen, cut the string and break it up/spread it out. Get in your bow stand quick and get a arrow knocked.. they will be in there before you get a chance to get settled. Also remember that you can shoot axis at night, if you want to, so a late night sit under a full moon could be a lot of fun.

I have also heard about providing a water source? I guess it couldn't hurt either, considering rockaprj.gs isn't known to be a damp climate!

Feeder PEN could be a problem. Not that they wont jump in, but I can asure you much better results without a fence

Would love to not have feed pens but landowner requires them because she will sometime put sheep on thy side before she sells.them, not to mention, the hogs get the corn before the deer!
