My swivel knife is an old one that my Dad bought from Tandy back in the 70's. It looks exaclty the same as the one they sell today. It needed a new blade and I bought the one recommended by the lady at the Fort Worth Tandy store. It is straight and hollow ground. I saw the angled blades, are they easier to use?

I have the "simple" blade that came with my kit, also another swivel knife with a hollow ground carbon blade.

Steel blades require frequent resharpening and stropping. If you're set up for it and wish to go that route, and most important it's what you like and are comfortable with, by all means go for it.

My main swivel knife has a ball bearing swivel and has a Ceramic Filigree blade. The ceramic blades, although more expensive, plus have to be careful not to drop it due to breakage, is a lot easier (for me anyway) to use. Just a few strokes on some strop leather with jeweler's rouge and it's good to go.

And obviously with a Filigree (angled) blade, it's easy to get fine detail cutting done.
