    I need duck-calling pointers!!!!!

So, I started duck hunting last year and I'm pretty much addicted to it. I bought a few duck calls last year and learned the basic feeding call and like, one quack. I can't seem to put all the quacks together like Stinkbelly or them cats on Duck Commander. When I try, it sounds awful. The ducks fly by me like, "Pssst...Negro, please..." and keep going. Anybody got any pointers or links on how to call?

Practice everyday. I use to practice in the car a lot, so I did not bother anyone

Take the insert out of the barrel and say the word "quit" Say it 5-6 times in succession. The first one being long and drawn out. Use the air pressure from your diaphragm, not from your tongue. Use your tongue to shut off each note instead of your throat.

Don't stress out too much on trying to get the hail call or come-back call perfect. When a duck is flying, they don't hear all of the call, just bits and pieces. Concentrate on confidence quacks.

Remember, ONLY call to wingtips and tail feathers!

YouTube will help the only problem with learning from a speaker is it's hard to hear all the notes and what it really sounds like so finding someone to show you the basics And showing you how it's suppose to sound will really help. starting out with a quality call always helps also. But the biggest thing is to practice practice practice and you will seen yourself get better.

Another tip is to make an audio recording of you calling. When you're using the call, it will sound different to you than what it does to someone listening.

Remember when you were young and you heard a recording of your voice? You said "is that me"?!

Practice, practice, practice. My wife gets pretty tired of it. Lol. I've been duck hunting for a long time, even guided hunts for a couple years and I still go in my room and practice. What kind of calls do you use?

I have declared my self mallard-call disabled.

I have owned a half dozen calls, had a dozen (no kidding) duck hunters/ partner who can call like the dickens (including my son who is, I have to say, incredible at duck and goose calling) tell me they don't know why, but there's something wrong. I can pick up a call, do all the above with 'hut' and 'cut' and air from my belly button and it still sounds like a kazoo. I can feeding chuckle with no problems, whistle for teal and sprig, call widegeons OK. But something is wrong with mallard calling.

My son said I do NOT qualify for a disabled parking permit, either.

Bottom line, it's better only to do feeding chuckles and not call poorly than scare the ducks away.

I practice in my truck on the way to work. It helps a lot. I have tried all the sounds, and learning not to blow but saying "hoot" from my diaphragm worked the best. I scared off a lot of birds at first but it was the coolest thing in the world to see a group of birds that are headed away, turn and come to your decoys. Good luck.

On which call, I have spent a fortune but I still go back to my Haydel dr-85 when I need to get it done.

And get a teal whistle. There's numerous ducks you can make with just one whistle.
