    Upgraded my .17HMR for night

I got myself a Pulsar N550 and mounted it on my Savage. It works day or night. Only one shot to zero! Now I can kill my watermelon and chicken thieves! I will be up late tonight.

I have had the rifle several years. I love it. I usually tape a few coins on a target and shoot them. Very accurate. I have killed two yotes with it. I had a cheap BSA sweet 17 scope on it and have been wanting to upgrade it.

I've been thinking of getting a 17 HMR, but I've heard that they're not always guaranteed coyote stoppers. Obviously they CAN kill a coyote, with a well-placed shot, but I'm curious if you've ever had any of the ones you've shot keep on truckin' for a while.

The first one was about a hundred yards out. Free handed shot. it went through the lungs. I was using the red tipped Hornaday and had complete pass through, even hit a rib. He went about 50 yds. That little red bullet really impressed me. The second one was about same yardage as first. I used the federal ammo on this one. I hit high and paralized his back legs. He went to spinning and I put one in his ear. I say it is good out to about 150 yds, I know at 200 it seems to float some. But I never intended it for long range, thats what the .243 &.338 are for.

Also really good to pop heads off birds...

Very accurate gun out to 125. Prob inch or two of drop. Prob 6 inches at 150 and a foot plus at 200. I try to keep most of my shots within a 100 but for shooting yotes i use the 20 gr solid lead bullets not the 17gr ballistic tips and a high shoulder/spine shot drops in their tracks
