I have a memory that will always be in the back of my mind, and that memory will always affect the way I feel about topics like this.............. Back in 1998 I watched a guide take a guy to a ground blind on a 9,000 acre private ranch and let him kill a 188" monster the same day he got there from the airport. The hunter took a picture with the buck in front of a popular ground blind he sells, even though it was shot out of an old pump house on the ranch. Workers had been pouring 50lbs of corn out at the pump house everyday we had been there. All week long the ranch owner made us drive around the section where this buck was living.
my point is, celebrities have lots of people working for them, finding game, and getting the the outfitters booked. It takes a team of people to get a guy like archie nesbitt to all the places he's hunted and on top of all the game he's killed. Same goes for Fred Eichler and chuck adams.
I tend to lean more towards guys like Bisch or Buff that go to leases, find animals, then kill them with recurves year after year. I think of the worlds best bowhunter as a dude thats been bowhunting for 50 years or more and taken hundreds of animals that probably doesn't have his own tv show.
its hard for me to cast my vote for celebrity hunters when they have people scouting units, outfitters working all year, and a ton of guide interaction involved in their hunts
If you've ever read the book that is Fred Bears compilation of his field notes from his hunts most everyone would vote Fred Bear hands down. He and his buddies would go places and hunt animals and places that no one had ever hunted before. Many times he would have to prove that his bow was deadly enough and accurate enough to kill before he was allowed to use it. He hunted animals in places that had never seen a person before. He would give credit for his friends being better shots than him and he was never afraid to own up to his mistakes when he blew hunts. He would take off on hunts not knowing entirely what he was in for and not knowing what to take for a month long hunt. I'm sure there are better archers than him that have the benefit of modern technology like range finders, bows, trucks, etc., but he was a true pioneer that had a real passion for something in a time when others just didn't understand why he would use a bow when he could be using a gun. I am a huge fan after reading this book.
I doubt the best bowhunter on the planet is on TV.
X2
It's a little easier to be "good" or "respected" when you can edit what people see and you have corporate sponsors and big money financing your escapades.

Which book is it? I think I would like to read it.
Being a great bowhunter is about beating your targeted animal at his own game. There are a lot of people on here that get that done year after year.
The most respected bowhunter on the planet has to be a very well liked person who takes great quality animals and gived back to the sport in every aspect and helps it grow by promoting it.
