Need help with a floor jack!

Hey yall. My wife bought me a couple new floor jacks this past christmas and i just got around to using them here a couple weeks ago. They are not high lift jacks but not the little bitty ones either. They are like a medium height lift jack. I needed them to be able to jack up my tundra with a 6" lift and 35" tires to rotate the tires and such. Well, i took them out a couple weeks ago to change out my brake pads and one of them had a problem. I was able to lift the truck up just fine and then when i went to lower it down, the dang jack would only lower to about half way! Luckly for me that was JUST low enough to get it out from under the truck! I tried messing with it with ever way i knew how to, which isnt much at all, but it still will only just return to half the dropping level. You can raise it all the way up, then turn the release screw, and it will go down but to only half the heigth and not all the way down. When it is lowering down and gets to the half way point its like it just hits bottom and thats it. Just like as if it was actually lowered all the way down. The other one works just fine. All i did was take them out the box and use them. I didnt alter anything or mess with anything. Im kinda stuck now. I guess i can always just take it back but she bought them from harbor freight and its about an hour away from the house. Anyone got any ideas on what i should try?

Is there some kind of lock or safety device to release before it will lower all the way? I have seen this before so that it will not drop all the way...

Maybe a pin or a catch like on a winch/come along?

Sounds to me like something is in the cylinder blocking it from letting it down all the way

Is it hydraulic? if so you may have air in the system, there should be a bleeder value on it somewhere so you can bleed the air off. If not then I don't have a clue.

I have a jack that almost beats yours. It will go up but won't lift any weight unless I apply pressure with my hand from the bottom till it reaches the truck. Then and only then will it lift. But once it lifts it'll hold till the cows come home...
                  Now figure that one out...

Either return it or take out the screw where you tighten or loosen to let it up and down at and allow all the fluid to run out of the cylinder and see if it will come all the way down. Then go buy another bottle and refill it. and Try again.

Seals in the cylinder are going out. I bet once you get it jacked up it slowly bleeds off.

                      nope

It'll hold forever. Best I can tell... After a while I got tired of watching it... Seriously, it doesn't bleed down at all. Can't for the life of me figure it out... And it's been doing this for years.
