Discovery channels next big show:
Mermaids- Whale Killers.
"you now know they exist... Watch as they form a pack and hunt the Whale"
Watch as the lone wolf... Merwolfbecomes a part of the under water pact.
Scene from the show: "You merguys might not know this but I consider myself a bit of a merloner. I tend to think of myself as a one merman merwolf pack. But when my mersister brought merDoug home, I knew he was one of my own. And my merwolf pack, it grew by one. So there… there was two of us in the merwolf pack.
I was alone first in the merpack and merDoug joined in later. And six mermonths ago, when merDoug introduced me to you merguys I thought “wait a mersecond, could it be?” And now I know for sure, I just added two more merguys to my merwolf pack. Four of us merwolves, running around the under water merdesert together in Mer Vegas, looking for merstrippers and mercocaine.”
Coming soon to a theatre near you!!

It was interesting at first. Then I started realizing how scripted everything was. Then the cell phone videos started....soooo fake. Then, the martyr merman cutting himself so the shark would find him.....give me a break. I'm disappointed with the discovery channel. They used to put out educational shows. Now it's all about what will score them some ratings.

I definitely have my doubts and they secret video from the research facility and the end of the boys' video made me more doubtful. BUT, I can't totally discount the possibility.
It's sure not impossible to imagine a species like that being able to hide in the ocean. I really found the historical record of large fish with mysterious spears stuck in them interesting; AND the fact that nearly identical imagery and mythology developed independently all over the world at times when there was NO contact between the cultures. The point they made about a large whale species being newly discovered just a few years ago tells me there COULD be any number of things in the ocean that would shock us.
Bunny Huggers or not, I would think Animal Planet spoofing the public with pure fantasy, with no basis in reality, would risk their credibility even within the animal rights community; and that would not be worth the risk to them.
On the whales. There seems to be a lot of evidence (not just from this show) that Naval research IS causing these beachings and have no problem with people calling them to task for it. We've been pretty bad stewards of the oceans and, IF the Navy is causing them, they SHOULD be made to stop or modify they're testing to do it in a way that doesn't result in these beachings. If they can invent a sonar weapon they can surely figure out how test it without killing fish and mammals either accidentally or as test subjects.
Keep in mind that a couple years ago a fish was caught in Africa that, for centuries, scientists believed went extinct millions of year's ago and only existed in the fossil record. And that was on the coast and not in deep water.
I'm NOT saying I buy into mermaids but I'm not going to be so quick to discount them. Even though I think Bigfoot is a farce.
