A tree that is... I have a tree that's messing up a fence and some plumbing... Need advice on best/quickest way to kill it roots and all... I was going to cut it as low as possible but how do I ensure the roots die out... Thanks in advance for your input...

Go to lowes and get some stuff called Root Killer and flush it down your toilet if it's messing up your drain lines to the septic.Last edited by Rather_B_Fishin; 07-13-2012, 08:37 AM.

Yes Deisel and Remedy will work but you need to apply it quickly after you cut it down or the stump will seal over. Do not wait more than 45 minutes after cutting.Last edited by SavedHarvester; 07-13-2012, 09:18 AM.

I have killed several trees this way:
1) cut the sucker down and leave about 2 inches of stump remaining if possible.
2) For every inch of diameter in the remaining stump drill 2 half inch diameter holes in a circular pattern as deep as you can go .
3) Fill the hole with regular table sugar.
Depending on the type of tree, in about 6 months to a year the stump can be broken below ground level from the ants and termites eating the sugar/stump.

2-4D can be found at any feed store and is relatively inexpensive. I is intended for selective boradleaf weed control and does not work necessarily well on woody plants. I suggest using a Remedy (also can be found at most feed stores) and diesel mixture to pour in the holes. "Remedy" is meant for the controll of woody plants. You have to be careful though because this stuff works through the roots and therfore takes a while to work. The plant will look dead but resist the urge to cut it for at least a year or it may come back.
