Based on my experience I would shoot a fixed blade especially if you are hunting late. Their hair is extremely thick in late Sept/ early Oct. If you are going late I would prepare yourself for shooting in HIGH winds. Shockingly HIGH.
Not sure where you are located but if you live close you can come see the hides and how thick the hair is.

My wife and I both used fixed blades and we shot 3 between us.

If you are anticipating 40 yard shots here's the best advice I can give you.

Actually practice shooting the broadheads you plan to use at 40 yards. Do not trust that they will "fly like fieldpoints" to that distance. Even mechanical heads will sometimes impact much differently at 40 yards and further.

I am heading out to Alaska Aug 30 for a Caribou trip. I appreciate you starting this thread. I'm planning on bringing Slick Trick 100 Mags and Rage 2 Blades. I get back September 9. Hopefully I can give you a report before you leave on how both heads worked. Good luck.

The broadhead that you use for white-tails will be fine....caribou are not hard to put down and their size will surprise you as they are not as big as you think....When I was hunting caribou it was easy to get close to them, (20 yards or less)......The wind will be blowing....Hope for cool if not cold weather, the black flies will eat you up if it gets to 65-70 degrees. Take a very good head net with you, one that stays away from your skin and covers your neck, also light weight gloves that will not allow the flies to get to your skin....one bite and they will bruise you....
