    2003 Silverado A/C actuator ??

any chevy guys have this problem?

before it quit working the was a ticking sound from the dash (about the pitch of a blinker) then the sound stopped but so did the air diverter for A/c. it only blows through the Defrost vents no matter what position the selector switch is in.
I have the dual climate control model and the temperature works (heat and cold)
A/C works but only blows out the defrost.
basically everything is good except the actuator that diverts the panel.
problem... i get one estimate for $200 or it could be the actuator where the dash needs to be removed and price goes to $1100 (same place doing the estimate)
has anyone done this at home, is there a youtube link for the harder of the two? ( i can't find a video, just lots of forum links.)
i can't imagine this being an $1100 job to take a dash off and replace a plastic part

    thanks

(what a year... $170 alternator on Monday, both belts, spark plugs and wires, rear brake calipers and 1 rotor, instrument cluster re-furbish)

    That's a cheap estimate.

Try cycling the key off and on to get it blowing out the right vents. Once you do take it off auto. Control the temp with the fan blower button only. It *should* stay working.

      don't understand the "auto"???
I can change the temperature. just can't change where the air comes out.

as far as "cheap" estimate. man that's still a lot to take a dash out and put it back. granted i would break something and take all day but daaaaang

Gotcha. When I read dual climate control I thought you had this style:

That's the one in my vehicle, and how I remedied it. Sorry I can't help with that one

Mode door acuator. Left side of ac plenum. (to the right of your right foot and up). Not that difficult to replace, but will need to be calibrated.

Perform the calibration procedure for HVAC door actuators.
Remove the HVAC/ECAS fuse for a minimum of 10 seconds.
          Install the HVAC/ECAS fuse.
          Start the vehicle.
Wait 40 seconds for the HVAC control module to self-calibrate

Spot on advice from shinerbock. Try the recalibration steps before replacement. Sometimes that will put it to working again. Since you heard a clicking noise, I am quite sure that replacement will be required for that is usually some of the small gears having bad teeth at a certain point. When this system does not receive proper feed back signal to the control head it is designed to default to the defrost position. Federal safety laws require this feature. They could care less if you ride hot!

If you try replacing it yourself, be sure and find proper info. Aligning all parts is critical to the proper operation. These actuators are rather pricey also.

The HVAC/ECAS fuse is located in the fuse box under the hood. Sometimes performing the process more than once will do the trick. Also after the calibration you may notice the temperature actuators not working quite right, but they will usually return to proper operation after a short time.

I had the same AC system as you and it did the same thing. All I had to do was turn the ignision off and then back on. As for the clicking sound just turn the knob that controls where the air is to come out (knob on the left) up towards head and feet just a little and the clicking will go away.

thanks guys (shinerbock-Airtech) i ended up taking it to a shop $214.00 probably could have done it but really it was easier to let someone younger lay on their back. (and get it right the first time )
it was the door actuator (glad it wasn't the one in the middle of the dash $1100 for that one, they say the whole dash has to come out.)

Not to steal ur thread but my 04 chev 2500 will instantly start to blow hot air out of the driver side vent. This is random it can blow cool for 15 min or 2 min then all of a sudden hot air. If I stop and turn the truck off then start it again it goes back to cool. Any suggestion for that?

when i was "google" searching that was a common thing on the forums and youtube
