My yard is nice and green from some rain and some watering but I got a lot of runners. How can one get rid of them along my curbs and sidewalks other than edging or weedeating them ? Chemicals ?

Runners are just part of a healthy growing yard. Nothing you can do except cut em off or kill them with chemicals. You can spray just the runners themselves with Gly but the yard will just produce more.... unless you kill the source (the yard itself).
I have Celebration Bermuda Grass and I have to edge every 4-5 days when we get rain in the summer....the runners just run amuck!
You could just spray the whole yard and go Xeriscape.

And yes, weed eating or edging them will have to be done every time you mow.
