    Be CAREFUL out there!!

Guys and gals, this heat don't mess around. We all need to be more diligent in staying hydrated and maintaining our electrolyte levels. There is NOTHING that needs to be done or is more important than taking care of ourselves. We have other people relying on us and love us. To not take care of ourselves is selling ourselves and those who love us, short. In fact, it borders on selfish. If us following our hobbies or filling feeders or anything of the sort that puts us in jeopardy or harms way, we may need to reevaluate. There have been too many examples lately both close calls and all out losses such as Concho Man, to not learn from. Again, we may not be doing it intentionally but we're doing it either way. Be safe out there folks, PLEASE!!!
Take care of yourselves. The heat is not prejudice. It is an equal opportunity killer.

Good post. Remember, staying hydrated means water and electrolyte replacement. Not just beer.

Yes, sir! Last year, had a several close calls, working alone out on our ranch is a dangerous proposition!

I am taking the steps carefully this summer to avoid same scenario as last year.

                Thanks for the reminder!

First off, stay hydrated. If you are feeling thirst, you are already dehydrated. And I am not talking about the desire for just a nice cold one (beer) because it will taste so good.
I am talking about get well hydrated in the evenings if you will be out in the sun and heat for any extended period of time during the day. And if you are working in it (who is gonna be just hanging out in the heat if not working, right?) or hunting.
If you are in the heat and you are not sweating, you are in trouble.
You start feeling hot, of course, "feel like crap" and you will begin to feel nauseated if not actually vomitting. At this point.. drinking anything is not going to help because it won't stay down. You will upchuck.
You need to get out of the sun, get some cold (really cold) cloths to the groins and the arm pits. Cold cloths to the neck and the head and have someone or yourself if you can, change these often. The first few changes, the rags will heat up really fast. So, they will need changed every 30-90 seconds to get the desired and needed cooling effect.
If you can get in a cool shower, this is good, but beware, you are probably dizzy and feeling like passing out, so have someone nearby if possible.
The fastest way to cool down is the pits and groin.
If you do not do these things you could rapidly go into a Heat Stroke or hyponatremia and these are life threatening.
Once you are cooled down and the nausea subsides, you can then start taking in cold fluids, but, make it water and or drinks with the electrolytes in it to replace those. Eat a banana and eat some salty nuts or something with salt in it. A couple hand fulls is all it takes.
It will take at least 30 minutes to get cooled down and feeling "normal".
You do not want to pass out in the sun, have you seen how fast a fish out of water dehydrates, well you can too!!!! Pretty quick.
Good time to bring this back up from a previous thread from last week.

You only have it "half" worse than us "white folk".
Besides, nobody told you to wear black or brown. Put on a white t-shirt for goodness sakes. Lol
