When I can keep from using a light, I seem to have more encounters in the earlier part of the morning. There are some issues with that; when doing so, have a light ready (red) and shine it at about knee level instead of on a head lamp. Head lamps will only siloueette your upper body making it easy for deer to pin point you. I did this for the last two deer seasons and it payed off. I also rolled my ankle a few times.

I agree with DCW. It is more than likely shadows that spook them. I try not to use a light until I'm at the tree or in the ground blind. I can't make myself climb in anything before I give it the once over. Go Green!

They see you regardless of the color of your light. And they will spook at the sight, sound, smell and proximity of you before they care what color light you have

Walk out in the dark....... when I get to the stand/blind I use a white light. I have had critters walk by before I could get settled.

I do not believe it is the light (no matter what color) as much as it is the shadows the object hit by the light throw.

As far as hunting..........I have killed hogs with white, red, green, blue lights. I use red now as it doe not jack with MY night vision as much as the others.

I use red because its what's on my headlight. I've had good success walking in with it , but ... like was said above, if they are at your feeder or where they can hear your walk in , it doesn't matter if it is red, green or Keegals favorite, pink..
