The man down the street, Jim lafitte, he was my mentor. Me, Jim and his son Jason use to walk the river bank when i was around 13, shooting at rabbits and any other thing that moved. My dad was always into street rods and didn't care for hunting.
Grandad introduced to me to hunting, along with a few other things.I remember vividly the first time he gave me a dip of snuff. It was about 100 deg out,and we were mending fence.I took a pinch and he handed me the post driver.LOL Im sure you can picture the outcome of that endeavor.
My older brother and I kind of figured out hunting and fishing on our own. I didn't start deer hunting until I was in my late 20s and I just kind of learned it along the way.
My dad is not a hunter and never has been. My uncle is the one that got me hunting at an early age. I still remember chasing squirrels with him when I was 5 or 6 years old. Started deer hunting about that same time with my uncle in southeast Texas. Still hunt with my uncle and cousins ever chance I get in southeast Texas.
Pretty much self taught. My dad grew up hunting as a kid in order for him and his family to eat. He now has no desire to be in the woods or to eat wild game (other than sausage I bring to him).
Got some advise about what gun to buy from 2 older guys I worked with 18yrs ago. Everthing else I learned by trying, reading articles, and alot of mistakes. I have learned a ton on bowhunting from the Green Screen.
Teaching both my kids and hope it continues to future generations.
