    Historic Maps online?

Does anyone have a good site to view historic maps of towns in Texas?

I have one that I like but looking for others.

Here is the one I use now. Historic Aerials

What towns? I've got a DVD I found a long time ago that has thousands of old Texas maps and historic photos on it. I'll find it and can post some pics in the next day or so.

Sounds cool! How close up are the maps? I need something I can zoom in far enough to identify structures. Also would like to be able to scroll around the map to find other items in the landscape.

For right now, I do not have any one town in mind. But if I had to list one, I would say Fostoria is one on the top of my list.

You might try contacting Wyman Meinzer. He knows a lot about this kind of stuff and has endless contacts that are experts in Texas history.

If you have access to Google Earth Pro - it has historic maps. It's really cool.

Dunno if I have pro but from what I have seen on Google earth.............most do not go back as far as I would like.

Just looked.............$399 a year for pro, don't see that happening!

General land office, USGS, tobin aerial.

For our land I've got a great 1930s aerial from tobin (cost big $$) and I have a really good 1950s aerial from USGS (free)

USGS goes back to the 40s I believe, but it depends on your area. There weren't 40s aerials for Angelina county, but there was some for my father in laws land in MN

Sorry it took me so long to get back to you. I found my disks. The stuff I have isn't really searchable like that. One of the disks has over 1000 panoramic cityscape photos of cities all over the US and even a few from places overseas. Most of the pics date back about 1900 up through 1920 or so. For the most part they are of major cities but there are a few small towns too.

If anyone wants me to search for a city let me know. The actual pics are pretty big and detailed. You can blow them up and they are great for framing and hanging on the wall.

The other disk I have is of old old old Texas maps. Some of the maps are from way back in the 1700's all the way up through to the 1900's. Most are hand drawn. Again these maps are very detailed and you can blow them up without losing detail so you can print them out on a large poster type board and frame them.

I tried to upload some to photobucket so I could show you but photobucket resizes them so they look small when it fact they aren't. If anyone wants me to search from a city or an old map PM me and I'll send you what I have. There is actually some really great maps and cityscapes in the collection. It's like walking back in time.
