Hope the chicken pulls through. I remember the heat being hard on our chickens when i was a kid. I nursed of few of them back to health, making sure they could get to the water when they were too weak.

I'm glad she's doing better! I've been giving my hens lots of fruit that way if they don't drink enough Este they get the juice from the fruit. Chickens love melons and grapes. Its also a good idea to keep some electrolytes on hand. I use the ones they sell in a 3 pack for chicks but they also get the electrolytes I put in the water for the horses. I had a few hens laying on their sides the other day so I sprayed them down with a hose. I have a friend that has one of those mister hoses near her coop to help keep then cool. Her hens seem really happy

I remembered the name of the organism is coccidiosis, it's left in the soil whenever animals poop, it's especially hard on young chickens, it's treated with a sulpher based medicine that you put in thier water just follow the label directions.

One of our favorite new hens started laying eggs the other day - she does it around 10AM so far, four days in a row....so, we're excited to get fresh eggs again.

Curious how your hen is doing, assuming you've not posted again is a good sign.

If they are dying in your arms you may be holding them too tight. Loosen that death grip!

Shoot them up with B12 & combiotic or how ever you spell it.

Glad to hear she is up and around!
It's amazing how attached you get to them in such a short period of time. Even more amazing is the lack of knowledge on how to treat them when ill or injured.
I feed mine lots of fruit too, they love it and it seems to help.

Happens to ours every once in a while.

I have had mine start to die, fall down, act like they have a nerve problem and finally lay down with fluid coming out of their mouths, I finally figured out they were eating the dead flies I had been spraying off of the horses. About half of the "sick" looking chickens would eventually make it through it and look better in 4 hours or so, and go on to live another day. I had one I just knew would die, put it in a bowl on top of feed barrells to dispatch it. Came back a few hours later,it had hopped out of bowl and was drinking water. Surprised me!
