I work at Walmart that question will prompt on ANY ammunition that can be used in both a rifle or pistol. Just home offices way of making sure we check for appropriate age on ammo purchase's.

The folks at the Mansfield WalMart just pass right on past it and never ask.

It's for the 22LR, you have to be 18 for rifle, 21 for handgun.
I'm 39 and I've been asked just about every time I've bought 22 ammo.
it was a surprise because he asked about my age then proceed to ask if it was for a hand gun...... I understand the age laws 100%, If I show proof that Im old enough what kind of gun its going to be used in should not matter, But as Horn chaser stated it built into there computers to ask anyway, no worries just wanted to know why walmart need to know what kind of gun I was shooting

i did have a young man ask me " what are you going to use this for? " not happy about it. and i let him know it. wal-mart does not care about what type of weapon you shoot. or will it fit that weapon. falls under. see something, say something. glad its not just me that has been asked this question.

This old asian lady who was a clerk at walmart made a big deal out of one of my ammo purchases...she asked me what i was going to do with all my ammo, before i could respond shee said "kill someone hahah..you wife make you mad". I kinda brushed it off with a laugh and told her i was going to ashoting range, but it created a really awkward situation....

                Yep.

I am 56 and was asked several times when I was younger than 21 years old so we are talking about 35+ years ago.

This... I was asked about a month ago while buying some cb caps. I was confused as to why it would matter what type of gun I put it in so I asked the guy at the gun counter and thats the reason he gave me. Still dont make much sense to me... By the way the guy behind the gun counter didnt seem to have much knowledge behind the reasoning either.... Thats just what he was told to say. I have a feeling I could have told him no, its for a shotgun and he wouldnt have caught on.

I used to get asked all the time because I look younger than I really am.Not just pistol ammo but I even had to show them proof that I was over 18 to buy rifle ammunition.I got tired of that nonsense so I grew a beard and stopped getting haircuts for good measure.I haven't been asked since.

I look older apparently but I also look like I've never heard of getting a haircut.I'm rockin the "homeless guy" look. All the cool kids are doin it.
